The Good Universities Guide 2008 ratings placed Swinburne as the best university in Melbourne for Teaching Quality, Generic Skills, and Graduate Satisfaction, and one of the top three for Research Intensivity.

Campus locations

Swinburne University of Technology’s Hawthorn and Prahran campuses are located in two prestigious inner city suburbs, around seven kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD. Both offer a shopping district next to the campuses with shops, supermarkets and an array of multicultural cuisine. A large network of public transport covers these campuses which are located within the inner city area Zone 1.

The Lilydale campus offers a beautiful natural setting and is located at the tip of the beautiful YarraValley, Melbourne’s premier wine-making region. Croydon and Wantirna are located in Melbourne’s outer Eastern suburbs and provide a more unique experience for international students who wish to experience a smaller, cohesive campus. These campuses are located within Melbourne’s public transport Zone 3.

Swinburne’s Sarawak Campus is an international branch campus of Swinburne University of Technology. The Sarawak campus was set up in Kuching, the capital city of the Malaysian state of Sarawak, in 2000 and operates in partnership with the Sarawak Foundation and the Sarawak Higher Education Foundation. Located just 15 minutes from the city centre and in the vicinity of commercial areas, the 16.5 acre campus offers undergraduate degrees in engineering, business, IT and multimedia. Also offered are postgraduate research programs at PhD and masters levels in these disciplines as well as coursework masters programs in accounting and multimedia. Other courses include one-year foundation programs in business/IT and engineering/science as well as diploma programs in business and information systems, and electronic engineering which articulate into degrees. A range of English language proficiency programs are also available.

Student support & facilities

Swinburne’s facilities include wireless technology, well equipped laboratories, extensive libraries, health centres, comfortable student accommodation, cafés, sporting facilities and many special interest clubs. All campuses have easy access to transport, shops and entertainment venues.

International students studying at Swinburne University receive extensive support throughout their studies. Classes are small, and students have easy access to their lecturers and tutors.

They are supported by English language programs, with program coordinators who act as mentors and advisers, and counsellors who ensure that each student’s social and academic welfare needs are met.

Swinburne has a dedicated International Student Life team that run a recreation program, enabling students to go on excursions and day trips to many beautiful sites in Victoria and around Australia including wildlife sanctuaries, the Great Ocean Road and central Australia. The University also offers a wide range of sporting facilities, and many outdoor and extra curricular activities.
