Meridian International Hotel School (MIHS) has world – class facilities for all hospitality programs. Each Campus has brand new commercial grade training kitchens and a cafe with a bar and hotel training room planned for 2008. All classrooms for theory training are morden and fitted out with all the equipment required for training.

Students are provided with hands – on experience working in the café, kitchen and bar with industry standard equipment prior to finding work in the industry with the assistance of the Industry Placement Service.

MIHS’s experienced and qualified trainers provide ongoing academic guidance so our students can strive for excellence. Each trainer is appropriately qualified and has extensive experience in the hospitality industry and every student receives personalised attention.

Student Services

  • Students are provided with a supportive and caring environment, ideal for those with English as a second language.

  • Students receive professional support as they adjust to the new challenges of living and learning in a different culture.

Supports services include airport transfers, home stay accommodation and accommodation assistance, new student orientation, academic support, language and literacy assistance and personal counselling.

Industry Placement Office

The Industry Placement office (IPO) assists students to find employment in the hospitality industry. IPO assists with creation and preparation of employment profiles and portfolios, writing cover letters, preparing job application, developing interview skills and finding employment.

IPO provides students with direct links to industry through its Industry Speakers Program. Speakers are selected from a variety of organisations including government departments, corporations and small business.

Students from Meridian International Hotel School have been employed by a diverse range of businesses within the hospitality industry including Good2Go Recruitment, Villiers Personnel, Grand Hyatt, Rendezvous Hotel, KoKo Black, Marriner Theatres, and Black Tie Catering.

Guaranteed Work Placement Program:

In addition to the services provided by IPO, students can ensure guaranteed work placement of 900 hours by registering with the Guaranteed Work placement Program. Training Facilities

Hospitality students at MIHS obtain work experience in Café Meridian and the MIHS owned and operated 300 seat Restaurant in Melbourne’s Highpoint Shopping Centre.


SCHOLARSHIPS / GRANTS / PLACEMENTS

Articulation Pathways

Meridian International Hotel School graduates may apply for credit transfer at institutions that recognise their program.

After successful completion of the Diploma of Hospitality Management, students can take advantage of formal credit transfer arrangements in place with several leading universities. See www.tmihs.com for more information.

Instructional Method and Assessment

Students participate in regular trainer-led sessions and group activities.

Activities include problem-solving exercises, case studies and simulated work environment projects.

Assessment is based on competency; the student’s ability to perform specific skills. Assessment is conducted through a combination of observation, discussion, written assignments, tests, examinations and/or practical application/work-related projects.

Entry Requirements

The minimum educational requirements for most students are an Australian Year 11 or approved equivalent. International students from Assessment Level 4 countries require an Australian Year 12 or approved equivalent.

International students require a minimum English language level of: IELTS (Academic) 5.5, the TOEFL paper-based test 530 (TWE 3.5+), TOEFL computer- based test 197 (TWE 3.5+), and for the TOEFL internet-based test, an overall score of 71, with a minimum of 17 in all sections. MIHS also has an English Test available for direct entry.

NOTE: Students entering with Year 11 may receive fewer credits towards their further studies than those who enter with Year 12

Recognition of Prior Learning and Recognition of Credit Transfer

To ensure that students do not study modules in which they are already competent, MIHS recognises relevant study, work and life experiences. Applicants may be admitted with exemptions through the Recognition of Prior Learning Policy.
