To be eligible to obtain a student visa and to enrol in an Australian education institution international students have to show proof of English language proficiency. The IELTS is the only test accepted by the Australian Department of Immigration and Culture (DIAC) for student visa purposes. The IELTS required level for a student visa is 6, although this applies differently to various assessment levels of applicants. Therefore, it is recommended that you go to English language proficiency under the visa section of this website.

Education institutions set their own English language requirements and may have different IELTS entry levels for the proposed course than those required for a student visa. Therefore, intending students should check the entry requirements with both their proposed institution and DIAC
